Watermelon Seed Counting

This is a wonderful activity to work on one-to-one correspondence, fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

Materials

  • Red and Green (and yellow if you want too!) construction paper
  • Laminator
  • Dry erase marker
  • Black beans

How To

  • Using the four corners of the red paper, cut a “wedge” of watermelon.
  • Trace the same length in the green construction paper for the “skin” of the watermelon.
  • Glue the "skin" and your "wedge" together.
  • Laminate and cut out.
  • Set them out and write a number on each.
  • Encourage your child to add the same amount of black beans, aka “seeds,” to each slice.
  • Erase them and begin again!
