Lavender Play-Doh

Materials

  • 1 cup of Flour
  • ½ cup of Salt
  • 2 Tbsp. of Cream of Tartar
  • 1 Tbsp of Oil
  • 1 Cup of Boiling Water
  • Food Coloring
  • Lavender Oil

How To

  • In a bowl, combine the flour, salt, cream of tartar and mix with a whisk.
  • Add the cooking oil.
  • Add the color dye, water, and essential oil into a separate bowl and mix. Make the color a little darker than you want because you are adding it to a white dry base, which will dilute the color. Then add the wet ingredients to the bowl of dry ingredients.
  • Mix with a metal spoon.
  • Remove the play-doh and knead the dough with your hands until it is no longer sticky.

Tips with Miss Charlotte

Miss Charlotte - Teacher Playgarden

Troubleshooting: If the dough is too wet, add a dash of flour. If the dough is too dry, wet your hands and continue kneading the dough.  If the dough is sticky put a dime size amount of oil on your hands and mix it like lotion and then knead the dough some more. Tip: the water has to be hot for the chemical reactions to work.  If it’s warm, it will not mix.
