Hair Cutting

This is a playful activity that works on fine motor skills while also strengthening the hand and wrist muscles. Scissor skills can be difficult to learn; it requires a lot of concentration, hand-eye coordination and perseverance. Making scissor play a fun activity helps to elevate a lot of frustration that might ensue. Let your child explore pinching the tape and pulling/peeling with each hand. Ask, “Which hand feels most comfortable?” If you notice they are peeling the tape from the top, suggest they switch to starting from the bottom. This is a wonderful way to work the whole arm, using every muscle, which they will need later on when they are learning to write.
