Apple Tree Counting

You can hide the clothespins in a Fall themed sensory bin, or simply place the clothespins in a random order alongside the treetops. This is a wonderful activity that not only works math skills—such as number order and sequencing—but also works hand-eye coordination and builds pincer grip muscles! Try making the learning fun and encourage playfulness!  You could say, “I’m hungry for 8 apples,” or “I spy with my little eye 3 red apples.” If your child is having a difficult time using the clothespins, start with numbers 1-5. If they are getting frustrated, try to encourage them one more time and hold clothespin open for them while they discover the apple tree to match the number. Set your child up for success!

Materials

  • Green Construction Paper
  • Laminator (optional if you would like more longevity with the construction paprt)
  • Clothespins
  • Dot Stickers (We recommend stickers over markers as Dot markers will not look as vibrant)

How To

  • Cut out various sizes of treetops (ranging from small to large). Not sure what shape a treetop is? Think somewhere between a cloud and a flower. With the clothespin on the bottom, it will look like a tree!
  • Place different colored dot stickers on the treetops according to the number of the tree. (Ex. Tree 1 has one dot, Tree 2 has two dots, Tree 3 has three dots etc.)
  • Laminate the trees! (Optional)
  • Write 1-10 on the clothespins.
