If your child is about to begin a virtual learning preschool, there’s a lot to consider and prepare for.  Virtual learning is becoming more common every day, both among homeschoolers as well as people concerned about safety at school or just not having access to the right schools for their children.  In the right situations, virtual learning can be just as good as in-person classes – but it does require work from you, the parent, for best results.

Here are a few tips to help ensure your child’s success!

Four Ways to Prepare For A Virtual Learning Preschool

1. Create a dedicated time and place for learning

For kids accustomed to simply playing in the house all day, moving to virtual classes can be difficult.  You can facilitate this by carving out a space in your home which is only for learning and making sure to schedule online classes at the same time every day.

It’ll take a little time for them to adjust, but once the routine is set, you won’t have too much trouble getting them to sit down for their preschool class.

2. Technology problems?  Contact your school.

Most online preschools are accustomed to helping parents out with the technology side of things, so don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Also, if you lack the necessary equipment, the school may be able to help.  It varies from school to school, but some have “loaner” tablets or laptops.  This can be particularly useful if you want your child to have a dedicated learning device, separate from the family computers or phones.

3. Keep in communication with the teacher

It’s easier for you to observe online classes than in-person classes, but that doesn’t mean you should be hands-off.  Keep in touch with the school and teacher and let them know about any questions or concerns you have.  Good virtual preschools will have updates and progress reports to improve overall educational success.

4. Maintain online safety

If your child has their own room for learning, always leave the door open so you can keep an eye on what’s going on.  Also, encourage them to be polite throughout every class.  Some younger kids may have difficulty understanding that the people on screen are real people in real-time, so be sure to reinforce that point.
