The Most Important Elements in Pre K Homeschools

When setting up Pre K homeschools for children, a proper environment for learning is absolutely essential.  Young children are easily distracted, so they need to be learning in a space that is dedicated to education.  You should carve out a space in your home – or an entire room – which is set up to support your child and their education.

At Playgarden prep, we love working with Pre K homeschools to help them create a great working environment for their children.  These are some of the most important tips to keep in mind.

Three Must-Haves When Setting Up A Homeschooling Space For Preschoolers

1 – No distractions

The space you set up for your child should be free of any distractions that aren’t directly related to education.  No TV, no video games, no toys, etc.  If possible, we’d also encourage you to get them a dedicated tablet or laptop which is only used for learning, even if they have other devices which are for entertainment.  This helps ensure they don’t get distracted by the device itself, plus you can prevent them from installing any other apps or games.

If they get anxious at seeing their toys go away, just reassure them that they can play after school time is over.

2 – A fully-prepared working space

A homeschooled child should always have everything they need to do schoolwork, right at hand.  If they have to go wandering around looking for supplies, they might lose track of what they’re supposed to be doing.

This should include:

• A desk designed for working
• Pencils, Markers, Crayons
• Paper
• Books, worksheets, and other learning materials

Encourage your child to keep this space tidy.  Have assigned spaces for all their working materials, so they know where everything is whenever they need it.

3 – A library and reading space 

A good learning environment includes plenty of books!  At the least, the homeschooling room should have a good-sized shelf full of reference materials and ‘edutainment’ books.  

Also, include one or more comfortable places for them to sit and read, such as a comfy loveseat or a beanbag chair.  Reading at a desk can be uncomfortable, so give them a place to sit or lie down they’ll be happy staying in.
