Advice Into Action!

Whether your little one is taking part in virtual preschool or in person preschool, the advice teachers can provide you with during parent teacher conferences is invaluable! In our last article (you can find it here), we discussed a couple common pieces of feedback you may receive from your little one’s educators during the conferences; below, we’ve included a couple more examples that are very common to hear, as well as continuing to help you plot a course of action to work at home on the feedback your child gets!

A very frequent piece of feedback parents are prone to receiving is that your little one needs improvement with fine motor skills and handwriting. This is a very standard point of interest for a lot of little ones, and should be no cause for concern. For your preschooler, it’s good practice to use moldable solids, like clay or putty to help strengthen these skills! You can hide fun treasures inside of these items, and hunting for them will help your little one improve their fine motor skills. You can also sign your child up for classes that will help them further explore their abilities. Craft and cooking classes can be an excellent way to improve their skills, or even something like a magic class! It’s a fun way to make friends and explore interests while keeping the learning going.

On the other end of the pendulum, you may hear that your child needs to work on their gross motor skills, coordination and bodily awareness. This is also a totally standard piece of feedback! Your little one is growing and changing a lot, so it makes complete sense that they run into a few bumps along the way. Fortunately, there are so many things you can incorporate into your daily routine to help your child improve! When you travel to school and back, have your little one walk the stairs with you (you can set aside time in your day to find steps if your child is doing virtual preschool, too); it will help with their coordination. You can also have them carry their own backpack or bag. This helps them become acquainted with an unnatural weight, which improves spatial awareness! Signing up for classes that are sensorially engaging can also be fruitful.

At the end of the day, your little one and their teacher do spend a lot of time together, so the advice you receive from your child’s teacher should definitely be prioritized! In summation, though, participating in extracurricular activities are a great tool for further socialization and improvement!
