How to Homeschool Montessori Preschool
With more and more early education curriculum available to families, the idea of homeschooling your preschooler rather than searching out “pre k schools near me” is becoming easier and easier. Your little one is most likely spending a majority of their time at home, where they feel safest and most comfortable – that’s the optimal environment for learning!
Integrating a Montessori homeschool curriculum can look like teaching through games, puzzles, and independent activities; and practicing practical life skills in a space that is easily accessible for them, like a play or working child-size kitchen.
Components that make up a successful Montessori homeschool preschool classroom are similar to what you’d see in pre k schools near me for you. This includes, but is not limited to:
- A table and chair that are accessible for your little one
- Activities and puzzles that exercise fine motor skills
- A space for gross motor skill building (a piano rug, hopscotch mat, or simply a space to encourage movement)
- Sensory materials and activities that allow your little one to explore and discover their senses. For example, a tactile sensory mat lets your little one explore their sense of touch through different textures on each square. Additionally, sensory bins create opportunities for sensory exploration. You can fill them with whatever you want your little one to explore – water with boats or ocean animals, sand with letters and numbers, colorful pom poms to practice color sorting – the options are endless!
