More Tips For Maximizing Your Child’s Pre-K Online Learning

1. Minimize Distractions

Once classes begin, one of the most important things you can do as a parent is to minimize distractions.  If at all possible, the student should be kept away from TVs, other smart devices, toys, noisy siblings, and anything else that could draw their attention away from the lessons.  This is why it’s best if they can have a room to themselves (but with you keeping an eye on them, of course.)

2. Set a routine

Like regular school, online classes typically follow a set routine.  Classes are typically either held in the morning or afternoon.  Reinforce the idea that these times are for learning and nothing else.  You’ll probably have to take away some toys or devices during these times, so be sure to reassure them that they’ll get their toys back after class.

It’ll be easier for them to get accustomed to online pre-K classes if they have a predictable routine and schedule.  Scheduling is also beneficial if you have multiple kids who all want access to the same computer/device, so other siblings know not to use it during preschool time.

3. Communicate!

Good communication is crucial throughout the online learning experience!

First, keep communicating with your child.  Ask them about their lessons, and what they learned.  Get feedback on what they like and dislike.  Do your best to address any problems they have that could be interfering with their learning.

Importantly, you should also communicate with the teacher!  Online classes almost always have portals that make it easy to see lesson plans and schedules and feedback.  Don’t be shy about reaching out to the teacher directly, if you have any questions or concerns.  This ensures everyone is on the same page.

4. Be positive

If it’s your first time arranging online classes, it can be hectic, and there’s always the chance of technical problems.  Stay positive and be a good role model for your child.  If you’re upbeat and face problems directly, it’ll inspire them to do their best as well.
