How to Keep Your Child Engaged During the Summer

How to Keep Your Child Engaged During the Summer - Playgarden Online
BY Miss Charlotte June 01, 2022

Summer is here! The weather is nice, school is out, and parents have more time to spend with their children! However, sometimes it is hard to figure out what to do with them. If you’re not taking a day trip or extended vacation, it is easy to just put on a movie and let your kids sit inside. While that is a great activity for the end of the day, we’re here to provide alternative ways to get your kids active during the morning and afternoon!

Games!

There are tons of fun summer games to play! Here are just a few ideas

WATER BALLOONS: Fill up some balloons with water and head to your backyard, or local park. Trying to throw a water balloon back and forth without breaking it is a fun and challenging task. Alternatively, having a water balloon fight is a fun way to not only promote friendly competition, but also stay cool when the balloons burst!

FRISBEE: Frisbee is a fun way to practice hand eye coordination with your child, plus it gets them moving, as you have to run to catch the disc!

TAG: It’s a classic for a reason! Tag is a great way to teach your little ones how to play with one another in a sportsmanly way, plus gets them running around and getting their exercise in!

SCAVENGER HUNT: If you’re close to a park, setting up a scavenger hunt with your child and a few friends is a great way to challenge their minds, teach them how to work on a team, and gets them active as they explore.

Outdoor activities

Being outdoors is fun in the summer, and there are so many places to go where you can do just that! Taking a trip to places like the zoo, the beach, or a theme park can provide an excellent day trip. Places like these promote activity as you walk around and explore, swim, or run around! Places like the zoo can also provide an educational spin on the day’s activity, as your child can learn more about different animals and habitats.
