What is wellbeing?

Wellbeing, in its most basic definition, is the state of being comfortable, healthy, and happy. All of these things are important for anyone at any age, but children are especially in need of support when it comes to their wellbeing. Childhood is a crucial period for children to learn valuable life skills, and by showing them support as they learn about wellbeing, you can provide them with many necessary tools that they will use for the rest of their lives.

4 Key Aspects of Wellbeing

The crucial aspects of wellbeing can be placed into 4 main categories:

  1. Physical Health
  2. Emotional Development
  3. Social Development
  4. Educational Achievements

Let’s break down how each can be addressed in order to support wellbeing for your child.

Ways to Support Wellbeing For Children

1 – Supporting Physical Health

Encouraging your child to be active is an excellent way to support their wellbeing. Not only is being active a way to get them on track for a healthy lifestyle, but being active helps produce dopamine and serotonin, which help in feeling happy.

Finding games to play outside is ideal, but if the weather is gloomy or you can’t make it outside for the day, finding online virtual preschool enrichment classes can be a great supplement. Playgarden Prep offers a bunch to choose from!

2 – Supporting Emotional Development

Creating an environment that shows your child that they are allowed to express their emotions will benefit them in the long run. Creating healthy ways for your child to express negative emotions and by supporting them as they feel positive ones will allow them to develop emotional intelligence and good habits

3 – Supporting Social Development

Finding ways for your child to connect with friends is crucial for wellbeing, and will aid them in developing social skills. Finding children in your neighborhood to play outside with, or creating playgroups for your child to participate in with classmates from either their in-person or virtual preschool classes can allow them to have fun with others their age while getting necessary socialization.

4 – Supporting Educational Achievements

Enrolling your child in a preschool program, whether in-person or online, is a great way to promote socialization and support them as they begin their journey of learning. If your child’s teacher mentions they have been doing a particularly good job, or if they have an assignment they are proud of, praising them and acknowledging this is a great way to show them you care about them.

Enrolling your child in either an in-person or online preschool program is also a great way to offer a form of structure in their daily life. Structure is a crucial element of wellbeing, and can be found through our programming here at Playgarden!
